MBBS, MD, MS: Soon, Academic Audits at SN Medical College

Agra: Taking a constructive step towards improving the quality processes in teaching and learning in order to enhance medicos’ success, the Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SN Medical College) Administration has decided to conduct an academy audit of MBBS and Post-Graduation courses (MD and MS).


To carry out the same, the medical college administration has constituted a team of senior doctors, who will evaluate the overall standard of teaching and learning of MBBS and MD/MS courses following which a plan will be put in order accordingly.


Confirming the assessment stride, the SN medical college’s Principal Dr GK Aneja informed TOI, “A decision has been taken to conduct an academic audit. One senior doctor from each of the departments has been included in the audit team. In the process, an overall assessment of all teaching-learning practices will be done. On the basis of the audit report, a plan will be prepared to bring about an improvement in academic standards.”


Certain sources informed the daily that the decision is pursuant to all the complaints that the administration received regarding improper teaching and learning processes including:




  • MBBS students skipping class

  • degradation of teaching-learning standards

  • Flaw in the thesis of post-graduate students, etc.


The MD/MS course students prepare thesis as a part of their curriculum. The SN Medical College had already identified a decrease in quality of thesis. Students are been selecting old topics and preparing their thesis on basis of the study conducted on 10 to 15 patients. The audit team has been directed to check the topic and content of the thesis selected by students, reports TOI.


What is meant by the term ‘Academic Audit’?


The “Academic Audit” is a faculty-driven model of ongoing self-reflection, collaboration, teamwork, and peer feedback. It is based on structured conversations among faculty, stakeholders and peer reviewers all focused on a common goal: to improve quality processes in teaching and learning and thus enhance student success.
