Manipur: Protest for stipend by Dental College students

Imphal: Students and interns associated with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS), Imphal locked the college building and clinics of the Dental College on Thursday, demanding that the stipend paid to BDS interns be made equal to that given to MBBS interns. The BDS intern stipends have yet to be finalized.


The students have been informed that till a final decision is taken on the amount by the concerned authorities, the remuneration given to them would be that determined at the institute level as an interim measure on or before Nov 30.


Director, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Prof Ch Arun Kumar Singh, in a release stated that the students have been asked to resume routine duties, before the RIMS authorities be forced to take necessary and appropriate disciplinary action against their lock up action.


The Dental College, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal was established in the year 2011. The College is one of the Colleges under the establishment and administration of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal which is an Autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The College is affiliated to Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal and recognized by the Dental Council of India.
