Mangaluru: Dharna by DYFI for a new medical college

Mangaluru: A dharna was staged by the activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here recently demanding improvement in services and infrastructure in government healthcare facilities.


A demand for opening of a new medical college in Dakshina Kannada was also raised by them.


B.K. Imtiyaz, President, District unit, DYFI speaking to the gathering on the occasion said that fee in private colleges being exorbitant was taking away an opportunity from the poor to join the medical stream; therefore making it necessary for the government to start a medical college of their own.


The president alleged that private hospitals were charging an exorbitant fee and the government had no control over their doings reports the Hindu.


Sunil Kumar Bajal, Secretary, Mangaluru City South Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxists), who also spoke on the occasion criticized the government for delaying completion of the new building of the city’s Government Lady Goschen Hospital building.
