Puducherry: A man running a consultancy firm here was arrested today for allegedly cheating a person of Rs 11 lakhs after promising to procure a seat to his daughter in the MBBS course in JIPMER last year.

Krishnamoorthy, hailing from Kerala, was arrested on a complaint from Sai Baba, who paid him Rs 11 lakh being part payment of Rs 25 lakhs demanded for the medical seat, police said. The balance was to be given after getting admission. The deal was struck in the year 2015, however the ward did not feature in the list of selected students for the academic year 2015-16. The man went back to Krishnamoorthy who promised that she would again get admission in the academic year 2016-17. Based on this, the student again appeared in the exam for 2016-17 but once more was not awarded any admission.

The father then returned to get back his money from Krishnamoorthy. However, he wound up his consultancy firm and was absconding.

He filed a police complaint after waiting for nearly a year. Police laid a trap and arrested the accused, who was remanded to judicial custody by a court.
