Nagpur: A Rs 25 crore sanction has been given to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital's (IGGMCH), Radiology wing by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research(DMER) for procurement of MRI and CT scan facilities. The institute will also be receiving a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) Turn Key equipment used for detection of all diseases.

The students, both present and pass outs along with the radiology department had for long been asking for the installation of an MRI machine. Both, the MRI and CT scan machines are part of essential MCI stipulations for granting of postgraduate course recognition to the department.

The IGGMCH administration had several times raised the demands for the procurement of these machines, however, the state government had paid no heed. It was Dr Kishor Taori's efforts that got the IGGMCH recognition for its postgraduate courses at that time. The recognition came when the present Joint Director, Dr Prakash Wakode was Dean.

However, the diploma courses run by the department were cancelled by MCI on the grounds of not having MRI recently.

The government has now allocated a sum of Rs.25 crore for the purchase of an MRI, CT Scan and DSA. The MRI will be 1.5 teslas with Turn key whose price is Rs 12 crore. The CT scan is to be a 128 slice CT scan with turn key worth Rs 7 crore and the DSA costing Rs 6 crore is the other equipment to be added to the IGGMCH equipment kitty reports Hitavada.
