Maharashtra: Woman cheated of whooping Rs. 1.35 crore over promised medical admission

Mumbai: A case of cheating under section 420 of the IPC has been lodged by the Amboli police based on a Jogeshwari house wife’s complaint of having been conned of Rs 1.35 crore by a group of men. These men had promised to secure admission for her son at a medical college in lieu of the money taken.The police are looking for the accused.


The complainant by the name NJ Sheikh (44) lives in a Jogeshwari West Highrise with her family and had known the accused for some years.


"The accused had been advising Shaikh's family on financial investments. The family had been obtaining decent returns and they trusted the accused. In July 2014, the accused claimed they had contacts in prominent colleges. They offered to secure admission for Shaikh's son at Dr DY Patil Medical College in Navi Mumbai," an Amboli police official told Times of India.


The cheats had intermittently taken money from Mrs Sheikh this year, till November 2017, persuading her to part with varied sums for the promised admission. The lady on eventually realizing that something was amiss, approached the Amboli police station and finally lodged a complaint, reports TOI.
