Mumbai: Private and deemed medical institutes in the state will move the Bombay High Court all over again to seek protection of their rights to run their institutions in the face of the MCI calling for centralized admissions. The Council has included 100% seats for centralized admissions in deemed and private institutes. The MCI’s decision of centralized admission process for all medical institutions in the state: deemed or private, led the government to file an affidavit, on Wednesday, declaring the institutional petition filed- now standing' null and void'.

Adjourned till next Tuesday, the government called the petition 'infructuous', because pending petition, the Council had come out with a proposal for a common entrance test.

Senior Counsel Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, an intervener appearing for a Trust created by parents, said that in view of a Supreme Court judgment, the petition "may not have become infructuous".

Anil Anturkar, appearing for the petitioners, said interim admissions granted needed confirmation. The court has called on all parties to arrive at a common consensus if possible.Deemed universities had moved court on the state government last year for its decision on centralized admissions, reports TOI.
