Maharashtra: SVPC General hospital lent a helping hand by AFMC super specialists

Pune: The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) and Command Hospital along with its super-specialty doctors in collaboration with the Pune Cantonment Board(PCB) have decided to render services to the PCB run Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital from November this year.


“Board officials had earlier approached Armed Forces Medical College and Command Hospital to provide the service at the cantonment hospital. We have sent a proposal to the AFMC in September which they have approved, which was further sanctioned in the general body meeting,” Chief Executive Officer, PCB, PN Yadav informed Pune Mirror on the development so far.

With a bed strength of a 100, the hospital will be given an additional 50 more now. A specialized out-patient department (OPD) is to be inaugurated before November ends. “The new medicine OPD will be managed by AFMC’s Managing Director with their post-graduate trainees. We have also made a proposal for an intensive care unit,” Yadav added.


Resident Medical Officer, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital, Dr V D Gaikwad, revealed that the OPD would function between 8 am and 1 pm under the supervision of a unit of AFMC doctors, including super-specialty practitioners.


“Super-speciality doctors will have rotational OPD once in a week. These facilities will be upgraded over time,” he said. Gaikwad added that presently, the number of both - doctors and patients is less. “These new developments will benefit outpatients to a large extent,” he told Pune Mirror.
