Maharashtra : Nashik to get a Government Medical College

Nashik: The long awaited wish of the city to have a Government Medical College is likely to be fulfilled in the first week of the coming year, said State Medical Education Minister, and Nashik Guardian Minister, Girish Mahajan on Tuesday


"It's a matter of 15 to 20 days and I will be in a position to make the much-awaited announcement. We have completed all formalities, paperwork and have enough infrastructures to start the medical college in Nashik and Jalgaon. Post-Graduation (PG) Medical College would be a reality in Nashik next year," said Mahajan, while interacting with the media at Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).


The minister also stressed on the need for a major renovation of the Divisional Reference Hospital in Nashik . He said "Reference Hospital needs better ventilators, dialysis machines and some modern equipment. We are already in process of procuring 200 ventilators for the state. Moreover, we are looking forward to get a good share from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Funds of corporate companies by next year," said the Minister.


Mahajan announced a 'Mega Health Camp' to be held at Golf Club Ground on January 1. "Top specialist doctors in state have agreed to serve for free mega health camp where critically ill patients will be treated, operated and referred to higher-level surgeries. Government will bear all the expenses as part of Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojna," he added.


State Health Department Volunteers will start short listing patients from rural areas by visiting villages between December 25 and 31. The shortlisted patients are to receive treatment in 30 hospitals across the city.
