Maharashtra: MH-CET scrapped for medical admissions from 2017
Mumbai: The earlier confusion that prevailed over NEET and MH CET examinations in Maharashtra this year has finally been settled. The Maharashtra Government has announced that from the year 2017, admissions to all medical courses will be conducted on the basis of NEET scores only
After the confusion over NEET and MH-CET exams this year, the state has now made it clear that starting 2017, admissions to all medical courses will be conducted on the basis of NEET scores only. It also made clear that no common entrance test(CET) for medical examinations will be held 2017 onwards. In other words admissions to all medical courses will be based on NEET rankings only.
The decision comes in line with the mandates of Supreme Court ruling of April 2016, as well as following ordinance that was passed by the centre. The Supreme Court in an April directive had made it amply clear that MBBS and BDS aspirers would have to compulsorily appear for NEET. However, an ordinance passed by the center on May 24, and approved by President, Pranab Mukherjee, allowed admissions in government-run medical and dental institutes to be conducted as per scores of the state held examinations. However, the ordinance allowed for such admissions only for the year 2016
While the Supreme Court ruling made NEET essential for all MBBS and BDS courses for medical aspirants, the state government went ahead and scrapped the CET altogether. The decision leads to the conclusion that students appearing for medical competitions will no longer have to sit for separate entrance tests for admissions to different medical courses.
