Nashik: A significant list of colleges,( excluding deemed universities) affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), who have been granted continuation/extension of affiliation for the academic year 2016-17 was released on Wednesday.

The updated list has 38 MBBS colleges, 28 dental colleges, 35 Ayurvedic and Unani colleges, 23 physiotherapy colleges , six homoeopathy colleges, six colleges of Optometry and Ophthalmic Sciences, 21 BPMT Colleges, one college of para medical course and 56 nursing colleges.

The release of this list is likely to facilitate seeking of admission on the part of medical aspirants, ending hoax admissions at the initial stages. Aspirants seeking admission in private medical colleges must necessarily go through the released list, to ensure confirmed admissions for themselves in institutions of choice.

According to Dr. Swapnil Torne, MUHS, Public Relation Officer, "This list has been published at the university's website which shows the availability of courses and seats in medical colleges across the state. The Medical Council of India (MCI) changes accreditation and number of seats available in colleges every year after reviewing the infrastructure of respective colleges. But, there are many colleges who continue admitting students without informing them about the latest change made by MCI. This creates a problem for students who get admission at college level, but are prohibited to appear for examination on MUHS level. To avoid this, the university has declared the colleges, and the available number of seats."

Last year students admitted to MBBS, Dental, Ayurvedic, Unani and Homoeopathy courses found themselves in a quandary, as their seats did not have the MCI approval, disallowing the MUHS from conducting their exams. This led to student expressing their anger on the MUHS, as they held the body responsible for it.

"To avoid confusion, students still seeking admission, especially for nursing and Ayurvedic colleges across the state should go through the list and confirm whether the seats are authorized or not," Torne added.

Presently, the admissions to MBBS/BDS All India Return Seats for the 2016-2017 are under way through a personal counseling round. An announcement has been made by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research for Candidates to report to the College with original documents and Fees dues till October 19.
