Maharashtra: An employee of GMC Miraj has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on alleged charges of bribe of Rs 15,000. Further details on the allegation reveal that he accepted the amount in lieu of providing a man with documents for sanctioning a loan proposal. Sanjay Raman Waghmare (54). the accused in the case is a resident of medical college quarters in Mumbai.

ACB officials have confirmed that the complainant is also an employee of GMC Miraj. He wanted to secure a personal loan. Following the procedure, he applied to the credit society, constituted as per the legal norms of the college. It is run by the salary earners in the medical college. The rules in addition require an employee to submit an attested photocopy of the service book, so as to avail a loan from the credit society in the medical college.

Waghmare is an administrative officer in the college. He allegedly asked for Rs 15,000 from the complainant to hand over the document required for procuring the loan. The complainant in turn, promised to pay the amount and therefore was given the necessary documents from Waghmare.

It was only after Waghmare nagging to pay the amount that the complainant later decided to approach the union leader of the workers. An official compliant was later lodged with the ACB on behest of the Union leader.

The compliant was verified by the ACB officials. The corruption bureau laid a trap in Waghmare's office. He was caught red-handed in a sting operation conducted by ACB. In other words, the CAN officials noted him taking a bribe.

ACB officials, in their statement to TOI, have urged people to lodge complaint if they come across any government employee asking for bribe for doing their work or forward their documents and files.
