Maharashtra Doctor under arrest till Friday for fake caste certificates for MBBS MD admissions

Mumbai: In a yet another case of doctor submitting fake caste certification to get admission in a medical college Dr. Shadab Reshamwala of Thane hospital has been arrested and produced in court on Tuesday. The court has remanded him in police custody till January 13, 2016. Dr. Reshamwala was arrested on charges of forgery, cheating and submission of fake caste certificate to secure admission in MBBS and MD courses.


Reshamwala was picked up by the police on Monday, on the basis of an FIR report lodged by Yuvraj Mahadev Sonawane, Chief Administration Officer of the Grant Medical College.


The JJ Police informed the court that they had yet to question the doctor, about the person who connived with him to help him make a fraudulent stamp of the deputy collector and also signed on the certificate, as reported by the TOI.


In an interesting development Shadab's uncle Dr. Aarif , a masters in surgery, and an honorary lecturer at the GMC for the last 15 years was arrested last week . His children Aayesha and Akhef students of GMC MBBS course were arrested and released on anticipatory bail, in a case involving submission of fake certification to procure admissions under the SC quota. They had been arrested along with seven others. . Of the nine accused in their case Karan Purohit was the only one detained, while all others were granted anticipatory bail.


The scrutiny committee looking into Shadab's ST caste certificate case found that the certificate issued in the year 2007 from the office of Deputy Collector, Osmanabad, had been issued to a Suket Gyandev. A fact that was discovered after verification of the certificate number.


The committee acknowledged that A J Gujjar, the officer whose signature was on the ST validity certificate, had never been employed by that office.


Dr P H Shingare, Director, DMER, ordered an internal probe team, comprising its chief administrative officer, officer on special duty and others, to find out the details.Those found guilty will most likely have their registration numbers annulled by the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). Tauseef Ansari, Advocate for the intervener in the MBBS case, said, "It's a much bigger scam. Some people are charging lakhs and playing with students' future. They need to be arrested, " as reported by the TOI.
