Maharashtra: Dean, IGMCH, Dr Gajbhiye issued suspension orders
Nagpur: Dr. Meenakshi Gajbhiye (Wahane), Dean, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH), has been issued a suspension order signed by the Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday. Dr Gajbhiye has however, in a statement to the press has pleaded innocence.
The Saturday's suspension order delivery through a courier, at her residence was initiated by Dr A V Shrikhande, the Acting Dean of the college.
Dr. Shrikhande told the TOI that the suspension order was sent to her by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) early in the morning
Dr Shrikhande said that she received the suspension order from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) early in the morning. "I also spoke to Dr Gajbhiye on the phone," Dr Shrikhande said.
Ms. Gajbhiye had been charged under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. She had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 for clearing pending medical bills of the supplier, Superintendent of Police (ACB) Sanjay Darade, told PTI. The ACB also caught a private person Vijay Uditnarayn Mishra (44), who runs a mess at new residents' hostel, for accepting bribe that he claimed was on behalf of Gajbhiye, reported the TOI.
The DMER Chief, Dr. Pravin Shingare told the TOI that now that the suspension had become a reality, a departmental inquiry would ensue.
The state government would institute a high-level committee, which will enquire into the issue-in depth.
Dr. Gajbhiye who had till now maintained a discreet silence came out into the open by speaking to the TOI saying that she was completely innocent and was being dragged into a controversy, deliberately.
She said she performed her duty with all sincerity and honesty. "The CCTV was not working from January 8. I did not tamper with it. I am being falsely dragged into this for nothing," she added.
