Maharashtra and Karnataka dates for CET (Common Entrance Test) for Class XII students will not clash now.

Maharashtra's common entrance test (CET) will be held on May 5, and Karnataka Examination Authority is scheduled for May 4 and 5. This is a strong de-route for the students in the border areas as they now have an option of appearing for both the exams.

Now, the issue seems to be resolved for the Karnataka students as they can write the CET conducted by their state and seek admission to professional colleges in Maharashtra. On the other hand, students in Maharashtra don’t have the option of writing the CET in their home state and seeking admission in colleges of Karnataka.

As reported by TOI, for Maharashtra, pushing the exam date was not possible because of the SC deadline to complete admission to professional colleges. "When we realized the exam dates were clashing, we asked students to just write the exam. But by then, we realized their application submission deadline was over on February 22. We decided to allow candidates admission based on the Karnataka CET score," said a Maharashtra CET cell officer. Maharashtra will equalize the scores by adopting a normalization formula.

Karnataka has not reciprocated, though. A senior official in Karnataka's higher education department said, "We received numerous emails from parents and children residing in the KarnatakaMaharashtra border areas to change the CET dates as they clashed with Maharashtra's CET dates. But it was impossible to change them as we had notified the dates even before Maharashtra notified its CET dates."
