Maharashtra: 129 one year fellowships introduced for UG,PG doctors
Mumbai: Medical Graduates and postgraduates can now acquire expertise in newer areas of learning by joining skill-based courses in emerging areas of medicine.
129 one-year fellowship programs in medical, dental, ayurveda, nursing, and homeopathy have been started by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences for graduates and postgraduates to acquire skills in newer areas. Though initially limited to students of Maharashtra, the above course learning will be available to the international medical fraternity from 2019.
Medicine will include courses like medical oncology, clinical nephrology, sleep medicine, and pediatric surgery. Dentistry, on the other hand, will have programs like contemporary endodontic and cleft orthodontics, laser dentistry and micro dentistry.
"This year, we have received 900 applications," said MUHS Registrar, Kalidas Chavan. "Skill enhancement in a particular specialty is the main motive."
The initial seat strength will be 10 for each course, with one teacher for every two students. Training institutes and a few treatment centers will be running these courses also. 9 programs have been designed for BDS students and five for MDS students.
"The face of dentistry has altered dramatically. The fellowship courses have been designed after taking into account the best practices and the latest technology from across the world," said Dr Mansing Pawar, Principal, Government Dental College who has designed the dentistry fellowship courses, reports TOI.
