Mumbai: The municipal administration has been lagging behind many government and private hospitals in the state, as it has yet to fix a post- mortem allowance for the autopsy surgeons and staff attached to the three medical colleges in the city.

The three hospitals that are struggling to get a post- mortem allowance include: King Edward Memorial Medical College (KEM Hospital), Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College (Sion Hospital), and Topiwala National Medical College (Nair Hospital).

Employees of the three hospitals are in a dialogue with the municipal corporation regarding the same.

The Professor of forensic medicine, KEM Hospital, Dr. Rajesh Dhere said, “The state government hospitals pay Rs 130 per autopsy and this amount is split between the doctors and the staff per body. We have also demanded to be paid at least this amount.”

An autopsy calls for a team of four people-one surgeon, and other staff.
