Maha: Govt official duped in lure of MBBS, BAMS admission

Mumbai: Yet another parent of medical aspirant has been duped under the promise of UG medical admission.

In a recently reported case from Maharashtra, a government official working as an executive engineer with the water resources department was cheated of Rs 28 lakh by a duo allegedly including an political party leader.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the parent, the police have registered a case and are currently hunting the accused.

The saga goes back to the year 2016 when the parent, Patil was looking for MBBS and BAMS admission for his daughter and his relative respectively at the Pune based Bharat Vidyapeeth Deemed University. He came in contact with the duo who claimed to have strong connections with a senior leader from the political party and later promised him MBBS and BAMS admission at the colleges attached with the university.

The deal had taken place on the college campus itself. TOI reports that the victim parent came down to Pune in May 2018 and met with the accused. The accused claimed that the trustees of the college were from their village in Sangli and would help them secure seats in the medical college.

The investigating officer, Assistant Police Inspector CM Suryawanshi, informed Mirror about the contents of the complainant’s statement. “I was seeking admission at the medical college for MBBS and BAMS degree for my daughter and the son of my brother-in-law. One of the accused is my brother-in-law’s friend who acquainted us to the other accused. They had promised us admissions under the management quota,” the complainant said.

The accused including one who is known to be an office bearer of the political party, took Rs 28,81,000 from the complainant in different instalments in 2016.

After waiting for the confirmation of admission, Patil demanded the sum back. When the accused kept providing excuses instead of returning the money, he approached the police.

Assistant Police Inspector CM Suryawanshi told Mirror, “We have registered an FIR as per the inputs given by the complainant. However, the documentation and transactions between the two parties need to be checked as a part of the primary investigation. Once the primary investigation is completed, we will arrest the duo at the earliest.”

A case under Section 420 (punishment for cheating) of Indian Penal Code and Sections 66(c), 66(d) of Information Technology Act has been registered against the two at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station, reports HT.
