Madras HC orders Rs 85 crore disbursement to MBBS aspirants of SRM Medical College

Chennai: The Madras High Court, on Wednesday, gave permission to students aspiring for admission to SRM college to claim their respective amounts, deposited to secure a seat at the institution, from the Rs 85 crore fund submitted by University Chairman T R Pachamuthu and his aide, S Madhan, in the court. The two are alleged to have cheated students of lakhs in the lure of admissions. The Rs 85 crore amount had been deposited in the trial court by Chairman, Pachamuthu.


Justice MS Ramesh taking a severe stance towards the crime has refused to quash the FIRs’lodged and directed the crime branch to continue with their investigation and lodge their report within 8 weeks.


Former Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir, High Court, N Paul Vasanthakumar has been appointed Commissioner to decide on the sums to be distributed among claimants.

The conning case is based on complaints lodged by 136 students and their parents, who are believed to have paid Rs. 85 crores to Madhan and his associate Sudhir for MBBS, MS and MD admissions in SRM institutions.

Madhan disappeared on May 29,2016, leaving behind a suicide note stating Pachamuthu to be the person to whom the collected money has been entrusted.

Pachamuthu was arrested and released on bail based on complaints and allegations after he deposited Rs 75 crore.


His accomplice Madhan was arrested from a hideout in Tirupur later Madhan claimed that he had given the entire collection to Pachamuthu.


The High Court, subsequently, allowed Pachamuthu to deposit a Rs 10 crore bank guarantee in addition to the already deposited Rs.75 crore in the account of XI metropolitan magistrate court, Chennai reports TOI.
