Indore: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore, which was to apply for an MBBS seat increase from 150 to 250 this year, before commencement of session, has been forced to postpone its decision to the next year due to infrastructural delays.

The Medical Education Board Chairman, Manish Rastogi had a closed door meeting with the College Dean,Dr. Sharad Thora in Bhopal to review amenity status as per the Council norms.

Meanwhile, Dr. Thora, speaking about things discussed at the meeting told the TOI, "During the meeting, the chairman reviewed the present status of infrastructure, medical equipment and human resources. A senior official has asked us to first complete construction work before approaching MCI to increase the number of seats."

The construction work which will be initiated in June, is likely to take time to complete, added Dr. Thora.

The college's administration had prior to this been preparing itself for approaching the Medical Council of India, next month, to increase its seat for the academic session commencing 2018-19.

The MCI teams had also visited MGMMC, earlier, in the year to check on infrastructural readiness: including library, labs, lecture halls as well as, medical equipment and faculty strength of the college.

The education regulator brought to light infrastructural deficiencies during this visit.
