Indore: Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore bench, recently disposed of petitions of 12 MBBS aspirants, who admissions were cancelled for not being in the eligible category, on the DME list.

Justices S C Sharma and Alok Verma have allowed the 12 petitioner students to approach the Supreme Court for justice. The petitioners had submitted 8 petitions challenging the DME list of candidates which excluded their names, despite having been eligible for counselling.

The Supreme Court had given a directive to the Director, Medical Education(DME) to make a list of eligible students on a 1:10 ratio. The DME in response to the court directive submitted a list of 940 students for filling of 94 seats in the state’s medical colleges. When this also did not result in seats getting filled, the state issued a second list on the same day, which included scorers higher than 422 marks. Even then seats at Index Medical College and Amaltas Institute remained vacant, resulting in the college assenting to give admissions to students who had scored above the cutoff score, however, whose names were excluded from the 2nd list.

The DME, however, cancelled the admission of these 12 students. The excluded 12 then moved court, pleading that they had been kept off the list despite being eligible for the 3rd round of counselling.

The Directorate cancelled the admissions of these petitioners, while their writs lay pending in court. The 12 petitioners then moved an application for amendment of the record, on Monday.

The court, however, disposed of the petition without considering the merit of the cases. Though it granted permission to the petitioners to move the Supreme Court since a matter regarding NEET admissions for MBBS courses was already in pendency, reports TOI.
