Indore: The Mahatma Gandhi Medical College will be reintroducing its MD (Dermatology) course, as there are all possibilities of the Medical Council of India (MCI) giving recognition to the course, with the faculty discrepancy being met with. The course, had earlier been de recognized as the department had no professor heading it. The recognition will com as a boon for the students of the state, as the program will be run at low fee, since the institution is state run.

In accordance to rules, Department of Dermatology should have at least one professor, besides other teaching staff, to run a post-graduate course in Dermatology.

One of the main reasons that the Council decided to withdraw recognition, earlier, was shortage of teaching staff in the department.

Three years ago when the apex body had given recognition to the MD Dermatology course, at MGM, Prof Narang headed it. However, after two years he was transferred to the Bundelkhand Medical University (Sagar). His transfer left a void in the department, as there was no professor grade faculty in Dematology, anymore.

Last year's MCI inspection found the department without professor grade faculty at the helm, leading it to de recognize the course. Dr. Narang has once again been shifted back to the college and its Department of Dermatology. The transfer comes ahead of the MCI inspection.

"The inspection is likely to be held in next two to three months. We are hopeful of getting recognition to MD (dermatology) back," said Dr Narang, MGM,Head of Dermatology appointee, reported the Free Press Journal.
