Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court in a recent case filed by a petitioner who failed to avail state quota for a post-graduation course at GMCH-sector 32, has directed her to recover Rs 25,000 from the Director General Health Services (DGHS). The DGHS is supposed to be looking after the NEET PG 2018 counselling. The petitioner is believed to have lost the admission due to delay on the part of the DGHS in replying.

Earlier, a Supreme court decision had upheld the High Court order striking down the institutional quota of GMCH-32 for postgraduate courses in medicine and science (MD/MS) from 100% to 25%.

This decision means that the college will now partake 25% of its quota to students with a Chandigarh domicile and another 25% to MBBS pass outs of the medical college itself. The remaining quota being for the central pool.

The petitioner, Dr Nanki Bakshi, an MBBS from Pune had done most of her schooling from Chandigarh. "She had applied under the state quota, but she was considered ineligible. She then applied under all-India quota. There was a notification on May 3 by the Government of India, which mentioned that the students, who took part under all-India quota will be considered ineligible for the state quota. We challenged this verdict," her advocate Aalok Jagga told TOI.
