Lawyer arrested for cheating woman of Rs 35 lakh with promise of Medical Seat

Kolkata: Anil Kumar Yadav 34, a lawyer by profession was booked by the cyber crime wing of the detective department, Bidhannagar city police in connection with a fake interstate medical education racket.


The police were able to grab him on Monday afternoon, after Sandeep Raj, of Muzzafarpur another accused was arrested on April 5. On February 4, based on a complaint registered by a Kaberi Sinha , a resident of Salt Lake a case of cheating and other charges was initiated by the cyber police.


According to Ms. Sinha’s complaint, she established contact with a Sandip Jaiswal near Swastha Bhawan in Sector V after seeing an advertisement in a daily in the name of Education Point which had an office at Ballygunge Terrace in Golpark, the police revealed.


Ms Sinha FIR alleged that Sandip and his associates took Rs 35,30,000 from her to arrange a quota seat at KPC Medical College and Hospital in Jadavpur. However, when Sandip failed to organize an admission in it, he promised a seat at G.C.R.G. Medical College in Lucknow thereby cheating her of both money and seat, said deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) Amit Javalgi reported The Asian Age.


The fraud took place between June 2017 and February 2018 a time period during which the payment was made said the police.


A police investigation has revealed that the inter-state gang has been active in and around Kolkata since 2016,
