Lagging Behind Studies: RIMS PG Medico Commits Suicide

She allegedly said to her family that she was not able to continue her PG course, as she has been lagging behind in her studies. This pressure of not completing her study allegedly forced the medico to take the extreme step.


Kadapa: Medicos committing suicide under the pressure of becoming a doctor has become rampant these days.


In yet another unfortunate incident, a PG medical student of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadappa has committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan, reportedly owing to the stress of falling behind in her studies. Local daily Hans India has reported about the suicide


The 23-year-old K Lavanya, hailing from Vulavala Palle village of Pendlimarri Mandal, Andhra Pradesh, had joined the course of medicine in Audiology division in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa.


After the completion of her course, she had left for Hyderabad for pursuing higher studies. the daily adds that she had joined as a trainee doctor in a private hospital in Hyderabad.


According to a statement made by the father of the deceased medico, a few days ago, Lavanya came to her native place resisting going back to Hyderabad. She allegedly said to her family that she was not able to continue her PG course, as she had been lagging behind in her studies.


This pressure of not completing her study seemed to have gotten to the medico driving her to take the extreme step. It has been reported by The Hans India that the medico was found strangulated to death to a ceiling fan in her room on 3rd September. The Vempalli police have registered a case in this regard and are currently investigating the matter.


In another case, a 28-year old post-graduate medical student of a private college was found dead in his rented house recently in Puducherry. Medical dialogues had recently reported that a third-year student, who was enrolled at Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College was found lying unconscious in his bed in the house.
