Kurnool Medical College Ragging: Juniors forced to undergo anatomy exam, donate blood
Kurnool: Senior students at Kurnool Medical College(KMC), hostel turned offensive on Tuesday night when they ordered their juniors to clean bathrooms wash clothes, physical anatomical examination by senior students and also go in for blood transfusions.When some juniors expressed their unwillingness to obey they were beaten up by their senior counterparts.
The issue was brought to the notice of the authorities immediately. However, the Principal KMC it is alleged did not take immediate action against the act of bullying. This lack of immediate action led to the junior students lodge a complaint with the III-Town police which acted on the complaint and registered a first information report.
The principal who is also in the know of the torturous incidents happening in the hostel has called for an "attitudinal change" saying said that "primitive sociological practices" seem to be dominating the minds of senior students.
He did appear perturbed on hearing that seniors were telling their juniors not to smile or laugh or ask them to look down when talking to them. In some cases even ask their juniors to fold their hands and address them as Sirs.
The ragging sessions are held between 10pm and 2 pm, media reports point out
However, the Principal told Hans India, that a probe into the incident had been ordered by him into the ragging incident.He gave an assurance that a repeat of this kind would not happen again. The Principal spoke of surprise checks being conducted in the hostels by the anti-ragging squad, monitoring committee of anti-ragging, anti-ragging cell, and monitoring committee on a regular basis, reports
He also felt that forcing juniors to donate blood was a peculiarity of ragging in this college.
Professor B. Sankara Sharma of the Gastroenterology department said. "It must be made clear that ragging is not acceptable and must be done away with as a "socializing tool"," A professor at KMC felt only stringent action against students indulging in ragging will have the desired results.
