Kozhikode:Rs 150 crore have been utilized for the infrastructural development of Kozhikode Government Medical College (KGMC)ever since the new government took over, Health Minister KK Shylaja has recently informed. The Minister revealed this after inaugurating the Colour Doppler echocardiogram lab at MCH. According to the Minister, various latest state of the art equipment have been introduced in various departments of the hospital in the past one year.
The reason to introduce new equipment in the hospital is to determine the size of the heart, to evaluate how well it functions or pumps and to assess the structure and function of the valves within the heart.
Elaborating on the uses of the lab, hospital officials said that a Doppler echocardiogram measured the speed and direction of blood flow within the heart. It screened the four valves for leaks and other abnormalities.
By assigning colour to the direction of blood flow, (Color Flow Mapping), large areas of blood flow can be studied.
The lab was initiated by Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society which spent Rs 1 crore on the super specialty block of the hospital. MLA A Pradeep Kumar, Corporation Deputy, Mayor Meera Dharshak, Principal in- charge, Dr Prathap Somnath and Super Specialty, Block Superintendent, Dr KM Kuriakose were present at the inauguration reports Deccan Chronicle.
