Kolkata: SSKM super speciality hospital transfers MS

Kolkata: The state government-run SSKM super-speciality hospital on Friday courted yet another controversy after the medical superintendent cum vice-principal (MSVP) of the institute, Dr Manash Sarkar, was show caused and transferred to Medinipur Medical College and Hospital.


In another development, the MSVP of Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sheikh Ali Amam has also been transferred to Bankura Sammiloni Medical College. Dr Sarkar has replaced Dr Manimay Bandopadhyay, who is going to be the new MSVP of NRS hospital.


The new MSVP of the Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER, the official name of SSKM hospital) would be Dr Karabi Boral. The MSVP of NRS hospital Dr Sheikh Ali Amam would be replacing Dr Panchanan Kundu.


According to sources, the director,Dr Manju Banerjee, has show caused the MSVP as to why he issued a notice on Thursday stating that the beds reserved for VIPs are to be allotted to emergency and critical patients. When asked as why the director has suddenly served a show cause notice to him, even though she had also signed the same notice on Thursday, Dr Sarkar replied that, “Please ask the director as to why she sent the show cause letter to me even though she was present then," reported statesman


According to sources from the hospital, the director of IPGMER might also be transferred. However director Dr Banerjee was not available to confirm the report or comment on the show cause matter. On the other hand,the agitating junior students who had gone on a cease work for more than 16 hours following a brawl between the junior doctors and a patient’s family,said that if the notice is withdrawn by the state government, they would go on a cease work again.


Regarding the transfer of Dr Amam, the director of NRS hospital, Dr Debasish Bhattacharya,said,“It is routine transfer as Dr Amam has completed almost two years in the post.”
