Kochi: Ernakulam Government Medical College upliftment soon

Kochi:The Rs 1.1 crore contingency upliftment plan for the Ernakulam Government Medical College (EGMC), will be put in place as soon as an administrative nod is received from the state government. This announcement was made on Saturday by the Director, Medical Education (DME), Dr A. Remla Beevi . She also made clear that the government service recruitment for all other staff were also underway and would meet with completion soon.

Talking about the contingency upliftment plan the DME said, “We expect the sanction fast and the funds will come after that. ” She further told the DC. “Some funds in other heads have already been released and Plan funds too will be released soon.”

According to her, once the government gave a go ahead to the hospital's Cardiology Department, medical appointments for the same would begin. She urged the staff to develop a sense of belonging to the medical institution and work selflessly for it.This being the only way to make EGMC one of the top medical establishments of the country, she iterated.

A few weeks ago, as reported in Medical Dialogues team, a death of student Shamna Tasnim had occurred allegedly due to a missing wheel trolley to carry the cardiac student to the ICU. Principal, EGMC, Dr V.K. Sreekala said that the incident has led the college authorities to submit a list of missing equipment and facilities to the DME, in order to avoid future mishaps. Students of the college had alleged that Ms. Tasnim’s death had occurred due to lack of facilities at the college.
