Kerala: Kozhikode Medical college wards to get music systems

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Medical College will get music systems in all the wards to mark its its 60th year of celebrations.The project is part of the 60-development projects being incorporated to celebrate the tenure of hard work put in by the health facility in providing medical services to the state.


“The low volume music will be soothing for patients. Besides, patient-centric general instructions will also be announced through the system,” said the Principal, Dr V.P Sasidharan, Kozhikode Medical College and hospital. The second hospital established in the state, Kozhikode Medical College has a strength of a 100 wards in four of its established institutions; namely: Super Speciality Hospital and Chest Hospital, Medical College Hospital and Institute of Maternity and Child Health (IMCH).


The other significant projects that the hospital plans to undertake, as part of its 60th year celebrations include: wheelchair supply, waste disposal, and provision of fold able cots to bystanders. No drinking water will be allowed inside the hospitals next year onward, instead drinking water machines will be parked at selected points around the health facility. Vallikunnu gram panchayat in Malappuram will be donating 100 wheelchairs in the 60th year.


The hospital has a footfall close to 24 lac a year, with people coming in from a radius encompassing Kasargod to Thrissur. It also takes pride in attending to the highest delivery cases in Asia, an approximate 10,000 annually. The institution’s structural beginnings came up on the Kozhikode beach with Colonel Dr K.N Pisharody, as the first principal. Spread over a sprawling 270 acre campus, Kozhikode Medical College Hospital is the first institution in the government sector, running a family medicine MD course in the country.
