Thiruvanathapuram: Despite Superintendent, Kozhikode Medical College, being under a Vigilance scanner for alleged irregularities and a Health Department report indicating alleged malpractices indulged in by him, besides, his nexus with private medical colleges, the government is reported to have done little to curb him.

The government is duty bound to initiate action against the officer, once the Vigilance Department submits a report against him, on completion of inquiry, reports the NewIndianExpress .However, despite delaying action, the government has sought a response from the Superintendent on the vigilance report; which is extraordinary.

It has been alleged that the file recommending disciplinary action and removal of the Superintendent from the post was forwarded to the concerned Minister’s office for action. However, the file has been gathering dust there, for the past two months.

It is believed that the Health Secretary had also called for action against the concerned Superintendent, but the file was returned to him, asking him to seek an explanation from the College Superintendent.

An explanation being sought after a Vigilance Department recommendation for action, is a clear indication of pressure being exercised to save the Superintendent. The procedure has it that a charge memo be issued to the person against whom the report is filed.

The Vigilance Department report has recommended disciplinary action against the Superintendent, who it alleges engaged in private practice, despite receiving a non practicing allowance, reports TNIE.

The report endorsed his removal, as he had contravened the government order that bans private practice by doctors in government medical and dental colleges.

Making an alleged expose of the unholy nexus existing between the Superintendent and leading private hospitals, the report stated that the investigating officials had found incriminating evidence that substantiated the charges. One such being a letter from a leading private hospital in Kozhikode, addressed to the Superintendent, thanking him for a referral to their hospital.
