Thiruvananthapuram: Salaries of Palakkad Government Medical College nurses have been hiked as per orders issued by the Minister for SC/ST Welfare A.K. Balan. The hike involves a jump from the current Rs. 13,900 to Rs 27,800.

The college which operates under the SC/ST Department has issued a hike in the pay of daily wage nurses through a government order dated Feb 26, 2016. However, this increase was not reflected in the salaries of staff nurses at Palakkad Medical College. The reason behind it was that appointments through the National Health Mission were not paid government salary.

The Minister has, however, issued orders making the salary of 28 staff nurses at Palakkad Medical College at par with the basic pay of their counterparts in government service, reports Hindu.
