Kochi: The reinstating of Dr Jilse George, Professor of General Medicine, Government Medical College, Kalamassery, and the doctor attending on Shamna Tasneem, before she gave in to death was ordered, by the Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT) recently. Shamna was a 2nd-year MBBS student of the college, who is believed to have died due to medical negligence.

The order was in response to a petition filed by Dr. Jilse George.

The Tribunal during an observation stated it could be seen at least prima facie that the expert committee had not attributed medical negligence to any other medical officer or staff member involved at that time with the case of Shamna Tasneem.

The committee said that various views were taken and suggestions made at that time, therefore, it was too premature to confirm whether there had been a 'default' on the part of the petitioner.

The tribunal, further observed that continued suspension of the petitioner was not called for, reports The Hindu.
