Kerala: GMC Thiruvananthpuram to get a new casualty block

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), is going to get a new casualty block within six months from now.The construction has entered its second phase, stated an official press release.


A two-storied structure, close to the main entrance of the hospital, it will have eight new operation theaters .Trauma care will be the new focus of the block. The building floors will be interlinked through lifts and ramps.


The new operation theaters will house surgery, orthopedics & neurosurgery, along with a septic operation theater. The basement will have diagnostic facilities such as X-Ray, CT scan, ultrasound scan and MRI scan..


The ground floor of the new building will position the reception, triage, different casualty sections, surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), medical ICU, operation theaters, pre-operation and post-operation rooms, and an observation room. It will have a bed strength of eighty , all located on the ground floor.
