Kerala: Many foreign universities medical graduates are facing trouble with MCI refusing to accept their application for an examination scheduled on June 29. These medical graduates have completed their course and have now applied for an examination which is equivalent of their course. This is the mandatory exam which medical graduates are requires to pass, to be allowed to practice in state. It is also a compulsory exam for pursuing higher studies in India.

The required application forms for the exam were to be submitted by May 16. However, foreign graduates are now alleging that MCI has not been accepting applications from May 10 only.

Nisha Janadas, a foreign graduate candidate implied in her statement that the students have been informed that the examination centres are full, as a result of which no additional forms are being accepted.

However, Vishnu Omanakuttan another graduate from the foreign university implied that the students are not accepting this reason from MCI. Even on further inquiry by students on the matter, they came to know that MCI has given such an explanation for the first time-that the centres are full.

V Unnikrishnan who has completed the course from Bukovinian state medical university Ukraine implied that the students are facing a dilemma as they may lose on year if they are now allowed to appear for the exam. There are many more students who are waiting for the decision.

However, the MCI has different version to this. 'Even though the examination is conducted for the Medical Council of India the conduct of examination is not under the control of the MCI. The examination is done by National Board of Examination. They determine the centres of examination and also about the terms and conditions,'' said MCI member from Kerala Dr K Mohanan to TOI.

The foreign graduates from Kerala has approached the Lok Sabha members from Kerala to take up the matter with NBE. 'If we are not able to attend this examination then the second chance is in December, which will mean that we will be losing a year,'' said Unnikrishnan.
