Kerala: Dr Ramdas Pisharody,Former Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Principal, passes away

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A driving spirit behind the Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (Mrithsanjeevani), and former Principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, Dr Ramdas Pisharody, passed away on Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 62.


Dr. Psharody, a nephrologist of repute, will be remembered for his pioneering work with KNOS(Mrithsanjeevani), which helped save hundreds of lives. A respected teacher and guide to many medical professionals, Dr. Pisharody, will be remembered for his many modernization initiatives; including the super specialty block and a new OP block at Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Pisharody spearheaded, the institution as its Principal between June 2008 to April 2015,


He is survived by his wife Dr K. Jayasree, Professor of Pathology, Regional Cancer Centre, and two daughters.


His body will be kept at the MCH, Alumni auditorium from 8.30 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. on Thursday, for students, faculty and the public to bid farewell.


The cremation would be held at Shanti Kavadam at Thycaud around noon.


Under his leadership, MCH witnessed Rs. 120 crore development initiatives on campus. under the Prime Minister’s Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.


He also served at the medical colleges in Kottayam, Alappuzha and Thrissur. On his retirement he joined as Consultant, Nephrology at SUT and KIMS hospitals. Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan and Health Minister K K Shailaja have condoled the death.


“He played a key role in establishing the KNOS and was an able administrator. His demise is a huge loss to the health sector,” the Chief Minister recalled.


'He used to encourage all new initiatives of students and faculty and always did his best to help them achieve it,’ remembers a student.


Dr. Pisharody, had been the member and office bearer of various professional bodies. He joined the Medical Education Service in 1982, reports Hindu.
