Kerala: Development work at GMC, Ernakulam to begin on January 1

Kochi: With an administrative sanction of Rs.368 Crore, the Government Medical College (GMC), Ernakulam is all set to start its development work from January 1, 2018. The Rs. 60 crore renovations and Rs 25 crore jobs of setting up of the cath lab and imaging center are already underway.


Health Minister, KK Shylaja, who visited the Kalamassery educational institution, recently toinspect the various wings showed a keen interest in the functioning of the blood bank there.


The blood bank in the medical college is putting to use the enhanced chemiluminescence serology to detect infections in the blood. This technique is supposed to reduce the window period for detection to two weeks, says Dr. Paul George, the blood bank in charge. Blood to APL patients is being provided at Rs. 200 by the blood bank, he informed.


Ms. Shylaja, meanwhile, also inspected the ongoing Ardhram work to transform the out-patient wing, renovation of the general wards and the pediatric ward, along with the casualty wing, reports the Hindu.
