Thiruvanathapuram: Sanction to three medical colleges has been denied by the centre in the absence of the Medical Council of India(MCI) approval for student admissions.

The centre's stance in this regard was made clear in the Supreme Court when approval appeals for 100 seats in Al-Azhar Medical College and SuperspecialtyHospital, Thodupuzha, and 150 seats each in DM Institute of Medical Sciences, Wayanad, and Mount Zion Medical College, Pathanamthitta, came up on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court had cancelled their admissions earlier due to lack of MCI approval. The centre was keen that the earlier Supreme Court verdict was considered before an approval was granted to these colleges. The petition is up for hearing on September 20.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided that the applications submitted for admission permission for the academic year 2017-18 would be treated for the academic year 2018-19 since the cut-off date for admissions to MBBS course for the current year was over and the academic session had commenced.

The court said no petitions by anybody be it an institution, college, society, trust or any party for grant of letter of permission to admit students to MBBS course for the academic year 2017-18, will be granted.

Though these petitions were related colleges which had not admitted students this year reports Deccan Chronicle.
