Bangalore: A crowd funding campaign has been launched by the Doctors against Corruption(DAC), who are battling for a centralized counselling system for admissions to post graduate and under graduate courses in the state. This campaign seeks money from doctors all over, through the Whats App groups, as they say that the battle is going to be a prolonged one. However, they feel, once won it would go a long way in securing the interests of medical aspirants and doctors from all over the state.

DAC, whose members comprise young doctors from across the state, is supported by the Indian Medical Association's Karnataka branch.

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, a DAC member said, "The legal battle undertaken by us is to uphold the nobility of the medical profession and raise standards of medical education, and thereby improve the overall quality of healthcare in our state. We will need substantial funds as the legal battle may be a prolonged one."

The first writ filed by DAC was against St John's Medical College. The High Court of Karnataka based on this writ observed, that the St John's National Academy of Health Sciences (St John's Medical College) had violated the PG admission process.

Following the order on April 13, the institute's Director issued a circular stating: "The high court in its order had directed St John's Medical College to conduct postgraduate admissions for the academic year 2017-18 through Karnataka Examination Authority's (KEA) combined counselling". All those looking for admission to the college were asked to register with the KEA.

A doctor said, "The state is constantly failing to follow guidelines laid down by the Union government regarding centralized counselling. There are only two types of counselling taking place in the state. One is for the NRI and management quota seats, and the other is for the government and private college seats. The centralized counselling is not happening in the state."

The DAC, filed a second writ on April 13, urging the state for centralized counselling as well as an increase in the government quota seats.

The present crowd funding appeal has been launched through the What App groups. It is soon going to be taken up on web portals, as well, by doctors
