Karnataka: Two aspirant parents cheated of Rs. 10.8 lakhs

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police are trying to find out whether a gang of 10 persons, who were arrested on Saturday on the charge of cheating parents of two MBBS seat aspirants of Rs. 10.8 lakh, have cheated others in the State. The cheats fooled the two parents by posing as employees A. J. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre.


The incident came to light after the parents, Kamalsingh Rajpurohit from Delhi and Mahendra from Rajasthan, filed a complaint with the city police on Saturday.


According to the police, no other complaint of a similar kind has been filed till now. However, the police from a Central Karnataka district have contacted them to find out whether the gang has any link with a case of cheating reported there.


The police refused to reveal any further. “We are looking for other persons associated with this group,” Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh said.


On September 5, one of the arrested reportedly sent the aspirants messages for seats at A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre and Kanachur Medical College.


Posing as A.J. Institute staff, the accused allegedly took a demand draft of Rs. 5.4 lakh each from Mr. Rajpurohit and Mr. Mahendar.


The 10 persons who were put behind by the Mangaluru police on Saturday were also seized of two demand drafts, two laptops and 20 mobile phones from them report, the Hindu.
