Karnataka: Medical aspirants seeking admission in private medical college in the state, even under the government quota seats will soon have to pay more fees.

Medical seats in private colleges for undergraduate and postgraduate courses will charge a higher amount from the aspiring students for the current academic session-which is 2016-17.

The recent news report suggests that the state government has given its nod for a 10 per cent fee hike. This decision is based on a single premise of balancing out the financial burden on medical colleges, after MCI had issued them a directive to pay Rs 30,000 per month as stipend to PG students.

Following some respite to the medical aspirants in the state is the fact that there is no change in the fee structure for admission in government colleges, both at UG and PG course level.

As reported by Hindu, the State government has agreed to a 10 per cent increase in the fee structure after taking into consideration the “additional financial burden” on medical colleges following the Medical Council of India directive for them to pay Rs. 30,000 per month as stipend to PG students. However, there will be no hike in fee for seats in government colleges for both UG and PG courses.

Having inked the consensual agreement with the private college managements for the academic year 2016–17, Minister of State for Medical Education Sharanprakash R Patil said there was no change in the seat share.
