Karnataka: Private medical colleges opposed to centralized counselling for PG Courses

Bengaluru: Post Graduate medical aspirants in all likelihood will have to appear for more than one counselling session, with private medical colleges showing little or no interest in centralized counselling in the state.

The state government had earlier, floated a proposal for centralized counselling in the state for post graduate medical courses for the academic year 2017-18. This was done in order to decrease the pressure on students and to provide services through a single agency.

No firm decision has however been taken in this regard and no conclusion had been reached at the meeting conducted by the Medical Education Minister, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, on Wednesday.

Deemed universities have opposed the idea of centralized counselling. "The minority colleges are ready to join hands with the department and hold a common counselling, but the problem is with the deemed medical universities," an official said, as reported by TNIE.
