Karnataka: 'Open more AIISH institutes in other states,' says Gangadhar

Speaking on the 51st anniversary of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), on Tuesday, BN Gangadhar, Director National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) promoted the concept of opening similar institutes like AIISH in all states. He said this would give a pan-India presence to the Mysuru-based premier institute. He asked the AIISH management to prepare a concept note on the same and submit it to the union Government.


Dr. Gangadhar felt that the vast expertise, service record and research of repute carried out at AIISH should be benefited from. This he said could be done by opening other institutes of similar caliber everywhere in the country. He felt the present NIMHANS alone could not carry the load of the entire country.


“The country needs more professionals in the area of speech and hearing. It can take the lead and help develop institutes like it in other States,” added Mr. Gangadhar. Speaking about the latest development of AIIMS having been opened in 6 states, Dr. Gangadhar said AIISH needed emulate the same. Mr. Gangadhar also highlighted possibilities of multi disciplinary research between Nimhans and AIISH.


Dr. V Prakash , a scientist of stature and former Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute released the annual report and felicitated meritorious students. AIISH, Director S.R. Savithri was seen presiding over the programme.


Mr. Gangadhar earlier released test materials, newborn screening reports, self-learning materials for DHLS programme. He also commended AIISHIAN awardees of the year and retired employees.


Database on stuttering and voice disorders and school screening report were also released on this occasion.
