Karnataka: The anxiety of the students appearing for the CET in the state just doesn’t seem to end. Now, there is a reported delay in announcement of the seat matrix for UG medical courses. This is also because of the lack of clarity on the issue of fixing the fee for private medical colleges admission under the state government quota. As a result of this development, the admission process for UG medical courses is going to be delayed.

According to the fixed schedule, the seat matrix announcement for medical courses was to be made today, June 14. Following which, the option entry for medical aspirants in the state was scheduled to be conducted on June 23 at 4 p.m. Then, students could change their options from June 23 to 25. Final allotment list was to be published on June 26 at 4 p.m. The remaining procedure of confirmed choice by a candidate, fee submission, and admit card issued was to happen from July 27 to 29. The students were to report to the college latest by June 30.

However, now the admission process is likely to begin from June 15 only for engineering courses. There is no confirmation on the admission process for medical courses as yet. It is only expected to start at a later date, once the fee structure is finalized for the government quota seats in private medical colleges.

Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil in his statement implied that that the government’s stand on the matter of sustaining the subsidized fee structure for government seats in private medical colleges still remains. After the private medical colleges managements have agreed to share the seats under the government quota, the only matter remaining to be resolves is the fee structure.

When contacted, Sharanprakash Patil told The Hindu on Monday that the announcement of the seat matrix for medical seats available under the government and private medical colleges quota is likely to be delayed and the allotment of the medical seats to the students would also be delayed.

Dr. Patil said that the government held more than two rounds of talks with the representatives of the managements of private colleges but could not arrive at an agreement on the fee structure. The private managements were not favourable to the differential fee structure for the government quota and the seats which would be filled through NEET merit list and wanted an uniform fee structure.
