Karnataka: Minister confident of MCI approval for govt medical colleges
Karnataka: Minister of State for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil is confident of receiving a green signal from MCI for the proposed government medical colleges in the state for the next academic year.
These colleges are expected to come up in Madikeri, Karwar and Chamarajanagar in the next academic year.
MCI has recently completed its second round of inspection at the college premise, and the state government has also submitted their compliance report about the shortcomings highlighted during the inspection.
MCI had last year visited the other government medical colleges in the state including colleges at Kalaburagi, Gadag and Koppal which got an MCI nod later.
Dr. Patil told The Hindu on Monday that the executive committee of the MCI, which would meet in New Delhi on April 28, was likely to take a final decision on the issue.
On the Supreme Court’s decision to recall its judgement on the Common Entrance Examination for medical courses and rehear a petition challenging the earlier decision of the MCI to hold a common all-India entrance examination, Dr. Patil said that as per the information available with the State government, the Union government was considering amending the MCI Act to incorporate a clause to hold an all-India Common Entrance Examination for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
He further implied that the state government would take into consideration the interests of the students at large in its decision to be a part of the proposal to empower MCI to hold the all-India test.
