Karnataka: The reported fray between the state government and the private medical colleges management still not reaching its due consensus has led MCI intervene in the matter now. Providing relief to many medical aspirants in the state, MCI has not now officially announced that it will be extending the deadline for counselling. So now students don’t have to feel anxious about the delay in announcement of the seat matrix and even counselling.

It is likely to happen before September 30, as the apex court directive on the matter is that UG medical courses counselling has to be completed before the said date in India.

There are many more states which have sought extension of the counselling deadline. This is because of the recent confusion, over Neet to be implemented or not.

According to MCI sources, “Since the NEET results will be out only in mid August, the states and other authorities will hardly get a month’s time to complete the process. It was therefore decided to extend the date.” According to sources, there are chances that the deadline will be extended by 15 more days, as the Express newspaper reported.

The extension of counselling deadline will prove to be a big relief for the state government. It is still in a state of negotiation for securing 40 per cent seats under the state government quota in private medical colleges.

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil told Express, “We did receive information about the MCI planning to extend the deadline for admission to medical courses. If that is the case, we don’t need to worry about the delay.”

However, the government is convening a series of meetings with managements of private colleges to get 40 per cent seats.
