Bengaluru: A decision has been taken that post graduate medical and dental seats in private, minority and deemed universities in the state are to be filled through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). The decision was taken at a meeting held on Thursday, and attended by university representatives. The KEA is expected to conduct counselling for over 2000 seats. A 10 % hike in fee for seats in private and minority colleges is also expected, informed sources. The fate of undergraduate medical and dental admissions process, is yet to be decided.

The decision to this effect has been taken due to the 'single window counselling' direction given jointly by the Medical Council of India and the Centre. This was revealed by S. Kumar, Executive Secretary, Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED K) and Secretary of the Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK).

NEET ranking is to be the only eligibility criteria behind the participation.

"We sat at the KEA and saw if the software they use can accommodate the huge number of seats that will be added this year. Until last year, the KEA was conducting counselling for around 700 seats. Now, this number will go up to nearly 3,000 with the addition of seats from COMED K member colleges and minority colleges," they said.

The NEET 2017 PG exam, conducted between December 5 and 13, had their results announced on January 15.

Regarding the process to be followed for undergraduate medical and dental admissions, the officials said "We will cross that bridge when it comes. For now, we will have to complete the PG admissions to start classes on May 1," reports the Hindu.
