Karnataka: IMA promotes NEET-based Centralised admission for MBBS

Mangalore: The Mangalore wing of the Indian Medical Association(IMA), has asked the state government to introduce a single window system for NEET based medical admissions in Karnataka.

IMA delegation led by President, Dr Raghavendra Bhat, Secretary, Dr Kadri Yogesh Bangera, Treasurer, Dr G K Bhat and Dr Prakash Harishchandra submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Medical Education Minister with regards to this, through the Tahshildar here, on Saturday.

With 9000 students passing out of the state's colleges every year, karnataka boasts of the highest number of medical colleges in India. 75% of seats are accorded to the meritorious in the state through CET. However, over the years, private medical colleges started their own CET and thereby curbed CET quota. This has led to the poor and downtrodden being deprived of medical education, revealed the memorandum .

As per the latest Supreme Court directions, all the states have to follow centralized system for medical admissions.

The Mangaluru wing of the IMA, in an attempt to uphold social justice, has urged the government to start a centralized system for admission, the memorandum stated, reports the TOI.
