Karnataka: Five first year MBBS students selected for Dr P.S. Shankar Pratishthan Scholarship

Kalaburagi: On the eve of its 17^th Anniversary celebrations on January 1, 2017, the Dr P.S. Shankar Pratishthan has chosen five first year MBBS students for scholarship. The winners of the Pratisthan Scholarship will be honoured on the day.

Kiran Veerupakshagouda and Suraj Rajshekar Garampalli, students of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Saumya B. Hullati of Mahavedappa Rampure Medical College, Kalaburagi, Priyanka M. Madival from Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences, and Ganesh R. Rathod from JJM Medical College, Davangere, would be given a Rs.1,000 monthly scholarship in individual capacity, for 54 months till the completion of their medical course

Narendra Badasheshi, the P.S. Shankar Pratishthan ,Secretary, in a press release on Wednesday said that the students would get the scholarship from 2016 -2020.

The Pratishthan which provides a scholarship to those coming from economically deprived sections would give preference to those who have studied in Kannada medium schools, he added. Prof. Badasheshi said Mr. Kiran, who hails from Ranebennur taluk in Haveri district, secured 96 per cent in PU examination and his CET ranking (medical) was 1,495. He has been selected to receive the Dr. P.S. Shankar Medical Scholarship Award.

Ms. Saumya, who has been selected for the Dr. N. Gangadharappa Medical Scholarship Award, hails from Nagvand village of Hirekerur taluk in Haveri district. She secured 94.56 per cent in SSLC and 94 per cent in PU and secured a CET ranking of 741.

Mr. Suraj, who has been selected for the Dr. S.S. Siddareddy Medical Scholarship Award, hails from Rajeshwar village of Basavakalyan taluk in Bidar district. He was brought up by his mother and relatives after his father died. Mr. Suraj secured 97.21 per cent in SSLC and 96 per cent in PU and secured a CET ranking of 741.

Ms. Priyanka, who has been selected to receive the Dr. Indira Veerabhadrappa Medical Scholarship Award, hails from Koliwada village of Humnabad taluk in Bidar district. The journey to medical course was not a cakewalk for her, whose father is disabled and mother works as domestic help. Ms. Priyanka scored 86 per cent in PU and her CET ranking was 559.

Mr. Ganesh,who has been selected for the Smt. Kalama and Basappa Bennur Medical Scholarship Award, hails from an agricultural background in Hanapur of Badami taluk in Bagalkot district.Ranked 12,298 in CET, he got 91 % in SSLC and also topped PU.
