Karnataka: Doctors agitation continues at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences

Hassan:The attack on the house surgeons of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences(HIMS) by unknown persons on Sunday night while on duty, has turned grim. Doctors and house surgeons have stayed away from work for the second day on Monday. The HIMS Teachers' Association (HIMSTA) too has extended support to the doctors protest, with the teachers set to go on an indefinite protest from Wednesday.


The doctors are only attending to patients with emergency needs. The out patient department is facing a complete shutdown, with the medical practitioners vowing to intensify their protest if the culprits of the Sunday night attack are not arrested by Tuesday evening.


It is alleged that relatives of an injured accident patient who were upset with the delay in treatment to the patient, were behind the attack on house surgeons Shwetha S., Jeevan Y.M., Harsha A., Anil P. and Sanmithra K.A.


A report has been filed with the city police under under IPC Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (provoking breach of peace), and 353 (assault on a public servant), besides the provisions of the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Medicare Service Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009. The complaint has been filed by K. Shankar, Medical Superintendent of HIMS. The teachers Association (HIMSTA), has condemned the assault, as reported The Hindu.
